The Norman Foster Foundation Announces the Partnership of the Norman Foster Institute with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The Norman Foster Foundation announces the partnership of the Norman Foster Institute (NFI) with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

In its global ambition the NFI continues to expande its network of partners cities, informing urban areas around the world and contributing to global discurse. A key component of this knowledge exchange is the partnership between the NFI Centre for City Science and MIT Media’s Lab City Science research group. In October 2025, the NFI and MIT signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore joint initiatives in urban innovation and sustainability, creating the NFI-MIT City Science Consortium, focused on the Global South.

This collaboration blends the two institutions’ analytical and technological strengths and design-based approaches. Together they envision the development of urban performance models, shared tools capacity – building, open – source knowledge exchange and global advocacy.
