Abstract
On Monday 30 September 2024, Norman Foster, President of the NFF, gave the keynote speech to the UN Forum of Mayors as their elected Advocate. He also opened the exhibition of the UN project for Ukrainian cities devoted to the development of the masterplans for Kharkiv and Mykolaiv.
Lord Foster discussed the future of cities in the context of rapid urbanisation and climate change. He emphasised the critical role of mayors in promoting sustainable, compact cities that prioritise walkability, public transport and mixed-use zoning, while discouraging urban sprawl.
The event gathered leaders from around the world to discuss pressing topics like financing for development, technology and the future of global governance.
